Be clever, play clever, and master craps the right way!

Games that use dice and the dice themselves date all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is only about 100 years old. Modern craps evolved from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, although Hazard is said to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen bet on Hazard amid a blockade on the fortress Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.

Early French colonizers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when exiled by the British, the French headed down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they a while later became known as Cajuns. When they departed Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is derived from the term for the losing throw of 2 in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. Most think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the modern craps setup. He appended the Don’t Pass line so players can bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he developed the boxes for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
