Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but modern craps is approximately a century old. Current craps formed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. No one absolutely knows the beginnings of the game, but Hazard is said to have been created by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, around the twelfth century. It’s theorized that Sir William’s knights played Hazard through a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 18th century, when banished by the British, the French headed down south and located sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they at a later time became known as Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns modernized the game and made it fair mathematically. It is believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the non-winning throw of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and across the country. A good many acknowledge the dice builder John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In 1907, Winn developed the current craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could bet on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he designed the spaces for Place bets and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
