Be smart, play smart, and master craps the proper way!

Dice and dice games goes back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is approximately 100 years old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the ancestry of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s knights played Hazard amid a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was acquired from the citadel’s name.

Early French colonizers brought the game Hazard to Nova Scotia. In the 1700s, when exiled by the English, the French moved south and located safety in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they were driven out of Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns adjusted the name to craps, which is acquired from the term for the losing toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."

From Louisiana, the game moved to the Mississippi riverboats and across the country. A good many think the dice maker John H. Winn as the creator of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn developed the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so players can wager on the dice to not win. Afterwords, he established the spots for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
